What is
The Northwest Indiana State Building
& Construction Trades Council?

The Northwest Indiana State Building & Construction Trades Council is an independent, umbrella, labor organization representing Northwest Indiana's construction unions and their skilled members. The council represents more than 30,000 skilled craft professionals who are members of 20 affiliated local building trades unions. The executive board of the state council is comprised of elected representatives from many of the local professional building trades unions. The local council is chartered through the national Building and Construction Trades Department of the AFL-CIO and is affiliated with the Indiana AFL-CIO.

The council coordinates activities of common interest to its affiliated building trades unions and provides resources to the 20 affiliated trade unions. The council works to promote economic development, work site safety, and apprenticeship and journey-level training. The council also works to help its affiliated unions organize new workers, pass legislation that positively affects working families, and assist in the securing of better wages, hours and working conditions through collective bargaining.

We appreciate your interest in the northwest Indiana building and construction industry. We are always looking for dedicated, hard-working men and women to join the most highly skilled group of construction professionals in the world.
